Spruce Filters

The Spruce Filter is a media filter used for the removal of suspended solids in waste water. The filter consists of several layers of inert natural material. Suspended waste becomes trapped and treated by the layers as liquid passes through the filter. This process allows the Spruce filter to be used in tertiary polishing and associated BOD removal, both of which result in purer water.

Here are some advantages of using a Spruce filter:

Smaller footprint than comparable sand filters
Lower backwash frequency and backwash volume required — this allows water to be used more efficiently when the filter is automatically cleaned
Removes over 80% of suspended solids in waste water
Pressurised system allows for higher flow rates than comparable sized sand filters
Automatic operation and backwashing
Air scouring available as an option — this can increase the efficiency of the backwash cycle and improve filter performance
Caustic backwashing available as an option
The filter can also be used on clean water applications, desalination plants and process water used in industrial applications
