Job Summary:

To work within our Projects department, reporting to the Senior Project Manager. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of projects related to wastewater treatment systems, including civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation elements. This often includes projects under AMP (Asset Management Period) frameworks for water utilities.

Typical Projects You May Manage:

  • Wastewater treatment site upgrades
  • Improving or replacing existing assets across all areas of process, including:
    • Biological Treatment
    • Aeration
    • Filtration
    • Settlement
    • Flow measurement
    • Pumping Stations
    • Screening
    • Chemical dosing and mixing
    • Storm Storage
    • Spill/pollution/flood mitigation
  • Associated PLC/SCADA system integration works including hardware and software replacements and upgrades.

Responsibilities:

Project Delivery:

  • Manage multiple projects across the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as the main point of contact between the client (e.g., Thames Water, Severn Trent), contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage communication with all relevant stakeholders to ensure suitability and operability of delivered solutions.

Technical Oversight:

  • Maintain an overview and responsibility for all engineering disciplines - Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, and Civils In terms of both design and project delivery.
  • Review and approve General Arrangement drawings, Control Philosophies, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, functional design specifications, PLC/SCADA designs, etc.

Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ):

  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001.
  • Champion a strong safety culture across sites.

Financial Management:

  • Manage project budgets and forecasts.
  • Submit Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events as appropriate.
  • Approve variations and ensure cost control.

Construction & Commissioning:

  • Coordinate installation, commissioning, and handover of assets.
  • Preparation of documentation packs including RAMS, Programmes, construction phase plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Ensure all required documentation is in place.
  • Resolve site challenges and technical issues during construction.

Skills and Experience:

Essential Desirable
  • Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment processes.
  • A strong background in Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, or Civils engineering, preferably in water/wastewater environments, with an ability and willingness to understand and manage all disciplines
  • Understanding of Water Industry Standards (WIMES)
  • Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC3/4).
  • Experience with risk, quality, and change management.
  • Stakeholder and multidisciplinary team management.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail.
  • CSCS Card
  • Full Driving License
  • APM, PRINCE2, or PMP certification
  • IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS, or NEBOSH certification.
  • An industry applicable ONC/HNC/B.Eng or NVQ equivalent
  • Experience delivering projects for water PLC companies (e.g., Southern, Thames, Anglian, Yorkshire, United Utilities).

Job Summary:

ATAC Solutions is a leading provider of wastewater treatment and pumping systems, offering design, installation, maintenance, and turnkey solutions across the UK. Our team delivers innovative and sustainable engineering solutions to clients in the water, utilities, and environmental sectors.

The Project Engineer will play a key role in delivering engineering projects within our Operations Department from concept through to completion. The Ideal candidate will be proactive and a technically skilled to oversee service contracts for multiple water companies throughout the South and Midlands. You will ensure the efficient delivery of routine service, maintenance and reactive support for a fleet of wastewater process equipment ensuring operational reliability and compliance with client and company standards.

Responsibilities:

Service Contract Planning:

Oversee and coordinate ongoing service contracts for wastewater treatment assets, including mechanical and electrical systems.

Coordination:

Manage site schedules, service visits and work closely with the planning team to ensure resource allocation for routine and reactive maintenance.

Technical Oversight:

Act as a primary technical contact for all clients providing timely updates on technical advice ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Problem-Solving:

Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges as they arise.

Documentation:

Prepare and review technical documentation which will include: Service reports, asset condition assessments, recommended upgrades or refurbishment work, RAMS and client updates as required.

Quality Control:

Ensure quality control and assurance throughout the duration of the contract. Monitor service contract progress, ensuring compliance with budget, schedule, and quality standards.

Procurement:

Oversee the procurement and delivery of materials and equipment needed for service contracts.

Health and Safety:

Ensure all activities meet health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Pumping Systems

  • Submersible pumps
  • Dry well pumps
  • Booster sets and control systems
  • Pipework, valves, and fittings

Wastewater Treatment Equipment

  • Biological treatment systems (e.g., activated sludge, SAFs – submerged aerated filters, MBBR – moving bed biofilm reactors)
  • Screening equipment (fine/coarse screens, drum screens)
  • Grit removal and settlement tanks
  • Sludge handling systems (dewatering presses, centrifuges)

Process & Chemical Dosing Systems

  • Chemical dosing pumps (for pH control, disinfection, etc.)
  • Storage tanks and bunds
  • Control and monitoring instrumentation

Electrical & Control Systems

  • Motor control centres (MCCs)
  • Level sensors, flow meters, turbidity meters, etc.

Site & Installation Equipment

  • Lifting and handling equipment for pump/machinery installation
  • Pipework installation tools and fittings
  • Commissioning and testing equipment

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential Desirable
  • Experience of working within the water and / or wastewater industries
  • Strong technical knowledge of pumping systems, water treatment or process equipment
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Good communication skills both in written correspondence and client facing meetings.
